$3M Project Value
SME successfully delivered a complex infrastructure package within a live waterway environment at Kororoit Creek. The project involved the temporary diversion of the creek to facilitate the safe demolition of the existing road and box culverts. Working within an active watercourse presented significant environmental, safety, and logistical challenges, which were carefully managed through detailed planning, environmental controls, and stakeholder engagement.
Key components of the works included the installation of 25 new precast box culverts, headwalls, and wingwalls, as well as extensive rock beaching as specified by Melbourne Water to stabilise banks and prevent erosion. The road was elevated by approximately 1.5 metres to enhance flood resilience and reduce future flood risk.
Additionally, a new shared user path was constructed to provide improved access for cyclists and pedestrians. Pedestrian management remained a core focus, with safe detours and clearly marked signage provided to ensure minimal disruption to the public and nearby residents throughout the construction period.
All concrete and structural works were delivered to the highest standards, with close collaboration between SME and council representatives to ensure compliance with design specifications, safety requirements, and environmental controls.
This project highlighted SME’s capacity to manage high-risk environments, deliver civil infrastructure in sensitive ecological zones, and prioritise public safety and stakeholder coordination from start to finish.

Scope included earthworks and subgrade, drainage, gas, electrical and sewer, kerb, channel and asphalt, line marking and signage, retaining walls and rock wall installation and landscape nodes.
